LITTLE BOXES

PRESENTED BY BENT SCHEMATIC

Producers: Jenna Koda & Adrian Threadgould

Director / Designer: Alex Podger

"In both its conception and execution, “Little Boxes” is an unconventional, yet brilliant realisation of the imaginative possibilities of theatre."

- Meredith Walker, Blue Curtains

Little Boxes is a ‘panodrama’ of peculiar people caught in the surreal loop of their own lives. Performed in a custom built 180 degree amphitheatre, the story flows between six characters living in six adjacent apartments sharing invisible walls. The audience peers voyeuristically inside as the occupants battle themselves in self-imposed isolation - oblivious to their surroundings but distantly aware of their own misery as they unwittingly begin to influence each other. There’s something strangely familiar about these people and their struggle to oppress themselves - perhaps if they looked beyond their walls they would realise how intertwined their lives really are…

Originally developed for Anywhere Theatre Festival 2014 and performed a disused industrial area in Northshore Hamilton, Brisbane, with financial support from Economic Development Queensland.
